This is an impressively conceived picture. Well photographed and the colour/monochrome effect is done well.
But.
It doesn't quite work for me.
The top half of the picture is magnificent, especially the interaction between the tree and the sky.
Real depth and drama.
The buildings are wonderful with the extreme colour creating a potentially powerful effect.
But it's the decision to split the photo into colour/ monochrome that mars the effect for me. I'm left with the impression of two pictures fighting for my attention. I would prefer two separate pictures, one all colour and the other all monochrome, both of which would be interesting in different ways.
Sorry if I'm coming across as negative here, it's just that I feel that there is one or even two much better pictures lying in potentia in this scene...
